GREAT ARTICLE ON SOPHIE TUCKER IN TODAY'S NY TIMES!

UPDATE (9-3-2009): I received this disc today, and it is most excellent. The transfers, in keeping with Archephone's standards, are superb. (There's hot stuff here. Anyone who thinks recorded jazz began in 1917 should hear Sophie's 1910 Edison recording of "That Lovin' Rag.") And the book-package with liner notes and photographs is delightful. Buying just the mp3s means you're missing plenty.

Here it is, celebrating Soph and the new Archeophone release of her early recordings.

RAY SMITH'S JAZZ DECADES ARCHIVE STREAM NOW AVAILABLE

My friend Chris received this email today, and it's worth posting here:

Dear Friends, Devotees and Dabblers:

The Music of the JAZZ DECADES is now ONLINE, globally, available 24/7, 365. There is no choice or selection of artists, groups or program themes ... simply, a couple hundred hour-long programs (of the 1,828 aired since 1972) on a continuous loop.

WGBH-BOSTON is running preliminary tests now but, if you so desire, you should be able to lock on to it by using the following link.

http://streams.wgbh.org:8010/listen.pls

If you get a "Network Error", click on OK and then click PLAY on your media reader; repeat if necessary.

For those who don't have it, the current JD can heard ONLINE each Sunday, 7:00 PM - EASTERN TIME - ( 00:01 AM GMT) - with the following link:

http://streams.wgbh.org/wgbh.m3u

I'd be interested in any reaction. Be Well...

Ray Smith
